FAQs – SPEAR for Biomarker Research
Our initial offering for SPEAR UltraDetect™ assays is a menu of biomarker research assays for RUO. Given SPEAR technology’s unique advantages of a homogeneous assay and compatibility with established molecular diagnostic workflows, Spear Bio is committed to developing high accuracy diagnostics in the future. Using an ultra-small sample volume in biomarker research assays offers several key advantages, including maximizing research insights, preserving precious sample volume, improving micro-sampling capabilities, and more.
For instance, the SPEAR UltraDetect™ pTau 217 assay’s ultra-small sample volume requirement allows for more efficient use of valuable samples, making it ideal for large-scale runs across multiple biomarker research assays.
This approach enhances biomarker research by increasing the efficiency of pTau 217 measurements while enhancing the broader understanding with capability to include even more biomarkers without sacrificing quality.

Due to the ultra-sensitivity and specificity of our biomarker research assays, products designed for the measurement of low-abundant biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease were the first to be developed for the SPEAR platform.
Our portfolio will initially include assays for pTau 217 and Neurofilament light chain and are launching soon for research use only. These products will be followed by additional biomarker research assays for other neurological diseases and inflammatory diseases. Our development pipeline expands biomarker research to support the study of neurodegeneration, inflammation, and to support research in other fields that require ultra-sensitivity.
